Getting around in Miami

The city is lacking in public transportation, and once you’re off pedestrian-friendly South Beach, a rental car is necessary—and recommended—for extended visits. For those who don’t want to drive, there is a commuter Metrorail system that runs from downtown Miami to points south, including stops near Vizcaya Museum & Gardens and the Fairchild Tropical Gardens (www.miamidade.gov/transit).
