Tucked inside the storied St. Regis Hotel, this high-class watering hole—named after the whimsical Maxfield Parrish mural behind the bar—is one of the best places to channel Astor-era New York. (And you'll wish you were an Astor when the bill arrives.) What else to order but a Red Snapper? The drink Fernand Petiot invented in 1920's Paris became known as the Bloody Mary after he started as head bartender here in 1934. If Petiot's libation proves too appealing, every cocktail is thoughtfully served with fistfuls of wasabi peas and macadamia nuts to prevent tipsiness among the designer-clad, mostly mature patrons who linger here.
Tip: Avoid the madding crowd by settling in between lunch and cocktail hour, or nearer to closing time.
