Portland Art Museum
Since the construction in 2005 of a new wing, the Pacific Northwest’s oldest art museum has really become two facilities in one. In the original building, special attention is given to the Far East (with collections of earthenware from China’s Han and Shang dynasties and scroll paintings from Japan’s Edo period) as well as American Impressionist paintings, and a much-heralded Native American art collection. The adjacent new wing is devoted primarily to modern and contemporary works, with an excellent photography collection.
Tip: The museum is open three hours later (until 8 p.m.) on Thursdays and Fridays ; follow your evening visit with dinner around the corner at one of the city’s best restaurants, Higgins Restaurant & Bar.
