Le Rosebud
14th Arrondissement
As much an institution as the better-known La Coupole, Select, and Closerie des Lilas nearby, the cozy Rosebud hasn’t changed noticeably in the 50-odd years since Sartre used to come by for a drink. The dimly lit bar and handful of surrounding tables are tended by servers dressed in white coats who mix Bloody Marys and Manhattans to a jazz background. If you decide to stay for dinner, the menu is strictly basic (the chile con carne has a loyal following).
Insider Tip: If you’re seeking an intimate evening for two, head for one of the two tables in back, as the front of the house tends to get crowded.
