Washing your face on a plane just got a whole lot easier.

Everyone has had those nights where you just fall into bed without so much as removing your mascara. After all, caring for you skin can be a hassle. There's face wash, serum, moisturizer, eye cream — the list goes on.

At times it can seem overwhelming, but it is important. Which is why as a beauty enthusiast and avid traveler, I’m always on the lookout for ways to simplify my skincare routine — especially on the road.

So, when I heard about Face Halo, a small microfiber disk that claims to remove dirt, oil and makeup from your skin with only water, I had to give it a try.

As someone who is neurotic about caring for their skin (the thought of going to sleep without washing my face is enough to give me nightmares), I was hesitant about “cleansing” my skin without soap. Would it really get all the makeup off? Would dirt and grime be left in my pores? Would I wake up in two days with a huge zit on my face?

I decided to put my skepticisms aside and put it to the test. I left my cleanser at home as I headed out on an overnight hotel stay with my Face Halo in tow. When the night came to an end I did as the instructions said: Wet the disk and gently wipe the skin.

As I did so, I could see the makeup absorbing into the device. The once-white microfibers were actually removing my makeup — even the mascara.

After taking one pass at my whole face, I looked it the mirror. It looked clean, but was it really? I flipped the Face Halo over and decided to take another pass at it. Surely there would be more to remove, right? Wrong. Aside from a small amount of left-over mascara it seemed my face was makeup free. It was magic. Well, not magic, but it actually worked and I was so surprised, but also so in love. This means I don't have to bring a bottle of cleanser with me on the road.

So, how does it even work? The disk is filled with millions of tiny fibers, 100 times thinner than human hair. When you swipe them over your skin, they reach down into the pores to remove makeup, dirt and oil while the water breaks down the grime the skin. When you’re done, you washing the disk with soap and water and let it dry. Every week or so, throw it in the wash and then reuse — it’s good for up to 200 machine washes and roughly replaces about 500 wipes.

The Face Halo is the perfect one-step solution for travelers. Not only is it better for the environment, but it’s easy to pack (the disk is about 3 inches in diameter), and you can easily cleanse your skin on adventures that leave you without the comforts of home like hiking, camping, or flying basic economy.
