The Dish: Thanks to the luxe (and Pepto-Bismol pink) Royal Hawaiian, Matthew Fox, who plays a spinal surgeon on ABC’s hit show Lost, won’t be as eager to speed off this island. You aren’t likely to run into him at the check-in desk (he’s a current resident of Hawaii), but you might see him make a crash landing at the hotel for a party, as he did for the season premiere after-party in 2006. Be forewarned: there’s zero chance of spotting any celebrities during the latter half of 2008; the hotel will shutter for a six-month restoration.
The Suite Life: Leave the floral-heavy décor of other rooms behind and book the serene Kamehameha Suite. Offset by sleek white furniture, subdued shades of pink flood the room. Even if pink isn’t your color, the bathroom’s soaking tub—which rests in front of a pair of casement windows overlooking your private balcony—should help to make up for the minor inconvenience.
