Spotted: Kate Winslet in Taupo, New Zealand, at Huka Lodge.

The Dish: Huka Lodge is at once rustic and elegant. On the banks of the Waikato River, amid the serene, natural splendor of central North Island, the hotel’s celebrity appeal is inherent, offering comfort and seclusion from the stresses of being in the public eye. Kate certainly isn’t the only celeb to escape the crowds here—Michael Douglas, Robin Williams, Barbra Streisand, and Diana Ross are a just a few of the big names who’ve visited. And the hotel is proud of its celebrity appeal; a list of its famous guests is prominently displayed on its Web site.

The Suite Life: Book one of four suites in the 1937 Owner’s Cottage, hidden from prying eyes by a copse of pine trees. The living room, den, dining room, and kitchen are shared by the four stately suites, but if you really want to vacation like a celeb, reserve the whole cottage and also claim the private courtyard and garden with outdoor fireplace as your own.
