Crocodiles

5 of 22

Where: Kakadu National Park, Australia

How: By vehicle or boat

When: Year-round

Among the planet’s most ferocious creatures, Australia’s saltwater crocs can grow up to 17 feet and 1,000 pounds—and they’re most definitely man-eaters. Thousands dwell in the myriad billabongs and rivers of the Kakadu wetlands in the Northern Territory. Aboriginal-run Gagudju Dreaming recommends several croc-spotting options from self-drive vehicles to guided 4 x 4 adventures and motorboat excursions. Late in the dry season (May–September) is generally the best for viewing large numbers of salties at once.
