California: Point Dume

3 of 12

Chef: Suzanne Goin, Tavern, Lucques,
and The A.O.C., Los Angeles.

Favorite Picnic Spot: “Point Dume in Malibu is my favorite escape. It’s only
minutes from L.A. but you feel transported—wide, beautiful stretch of white
sands, crashing waves, and even dolphins if you’re lucky. I never understood
eating at those picnic benches by the parking lot.”

Favorite Picnic Fixings: “I like to do some sort of theme—maybe something Americana
with fried chicken...or Frenchy with sliced hangar steak, red onions, and sauce
verte with a big arugula salad (I just take lemon wedges and a little bottle of
olive oil to dress it). I also like to have grilled or roasted vegetables with
lots of e.v.o.o., garlic, and chili.”
