New Orleans
Vic's Kangaroo Café
This Australian-themed dive bar may seem out of place in New Orleans’s Central Business District, but the pub has a loyal following of locals thanks to its laid-back atmosphere and affordable, no-frills menu. A bright blue sign featuring an inebriated kangaroo welcomes visitors to the café, which is furnished with unframed kangaroo and beer posters, blue string lights, multiple TV’s for sporting events, and soccer and rugby flags hanging from the ceiling. In addition to 15 beers on tap, including Guinness and Fosters, the café serves traditional bar snacks and sandwiches alongside more substantial entrées like shepherd’s pie and jambalaya.
Insider Tip:
The small café is especially crowded during happy hour on Fridays, so arrive early or late if you want to avoid the rush.
