Tuck Shop
This house-turned-restaurant in the Coronado neighborhood is owned by architect and first-time restaurateur DJ Fernandes. Inside, the 1950’s building retains a homey atmosphere with sturdy wooden tables (including a large communal table), mix-and-match chairs, bookshelves lined with leather volumes, and a waiting area called the Reading Room, adorned with a couch and bold-patterned rug. The eclectic menu draws on a number of culinary traditions, including Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Creole. Small plates such as the chorizo-stuffed dates and the macaroni and cheese with prosciutto are served as precursors to sharable entrées like the popular chicken and waffles.
Insider Tip:
Try a cocktail with tonic, lemonade, or ginger ale, all of which are made in-house.
