Shopsin's
Essex Street Market
New York, NY, 10002, United States
A famous grump and short-order cook, Kenny Shopshin is one of those only-in-New-York characters tolerated for his culinary skills. Formerly of Shopshin's Diner in the West Village, the infamous grouch now plies his wares in a bright, but cramped, corner of the Essex Street Market. Specializing in unusual food combinations, Shopshin and family cook up sausage-and-cheese bread-pudding French toast, mac-and-cheese stuffed pancakes, and other strange dishes that cover all cuisine bases. Portions are massive, but splitting dishes is not allowed (don't dare to ask).
