Manhattan

Sardi's Restaurant

234 W. 44th St.
New York, NY, United States
TEL: (212) 221-8440

Befitting a Theater District landmark that's appeared in several films, Sardi's red leather booths are surrounded by autographed caricatures of celebrities ranging from Lucille Ball to Hugh Jackman and Kevin Bacon. Founded in 1921 by Vincent and Eugenia Sardi, this restaurant has seen Broadway's highs and lows, playing host to celebrations of successful debuts as well as dinners commemorating closing performances. The menu focuses mostly on American-Continental cuisine, with signature dishes including handmade crab cakes, steak tartare, and cannelloni au gratin stuffed with beef, veal, and sweet pork sausage.

Insider Tip:

Russian immigrant Alex Gard created the original 720 caricatures in exchange for meals. Later caricatures were done by Bob Macky, Don Bevan, and currently Richard Baratz.
