The mouthwatering aromas that emanate from this tiny Cuban restaurant have led many strollers to veer inside (even though its unassuming building looks like an abandoned freight container). The superb Cuban sandwiches here—made with soft, chewy rolls, fresh cilantro, huge chunks of tender slow-roasted pork, and a secret aioli-esque sauce—could alone keep the place in business. The entrée-size platters that come laden with rice and beans, corn on the cob, and a tangy beet salad are also delicious; the oven-roasted half chicken and the prawns in a piquant rojo sauce are standouts. Expect a line, and expect to settle for takeout; the handful of plastic tables is usually full.

Tip: Though it’s open until 9 p.m., on busy days the restaurant sometimes runs out of bread by 7—so go early if you have your heart set on that sandwich.
