Vieux-Montréal (Old Montreal)
Olive & Gourmando
Opened in 1998 as a bakery but then expanded into a café, Olive & Gourmando has a menu of sandwiches served on homemade bread, pastries encasing Valrhona chocolate, and housemade ricotta. The chefs, formerly of Toqué!, have created popular sandwich combinations: the Cubain layers braised pork, ham, and homemade chipotle mayonnaise, while the Viva Las Vegan has hummus, tofu, pickles, and vegetables. Hot dishes include the macaroni and cheese with a truffle tapenade and wild mushrooms. Served only on Saturdays, an antipasto platter combines homemade crackers with pears, goat’s cheese, and honey.
Insider Tip:
The café is less than a minute from the Centre d'histoire de Montréal, a fire station turned into a city heritage museum.
