Chestnut Hill
Oishii Sushi
About 20 minutes from the city, this unassuming Brookline joint is often lauded as the best sushi restaurant in the Boston area. The no-frills interior is extremely small, with only an eight-seat sushi bar and one additional table beside the front window. The design is sparse, save for a few fish sculptures on the wall, focusing attention on the chefs at work behind the bar. Menu selections include salmon sashimi, a spicy scallop maki roll topped with black tobiko (fish roe), and traditional sushi like the caterpillar roll (made with eel, avocado, and cucumber).
Insider Tip:
Given Oishii’s popularity and limited seating, it’s best to arrive before the restaurant even opens if you want to guarantee a seat.
