Monte Alban
Despite its unassuming strip mall location, Monte Alban’s affordable and authentic Oaxacan dishes have made it a popular choice for Mexican cuisine in West L.A. Inside, simple wooden furniture is brightened by colorful striped tablecloths, Mexican murals, a sky blue ceiling, and a replica fruit and vegetable stand. The menu offers traditional favorites such as barbacoa de chivo (slow-cooked goat), although the most popular dishes feature the restaurant’s sweet and smoky mole negro (black mole).
Insider Tip:
Budget-conscious diners should visit during lunchtime when specials are only $6.99 with a drink included.
