L'Ecaille de la Fontaine
Owned by actor Gérard Depardieu and his former paramour Carole Bouquet, this brilliantly colored restaurant is known for offering some of the best oyster platters, shellfish, and seafood in the city. It was designed as a less expensive outpost to the venerable Fontaine Gaillon across the street, and despite its eye-popping color combinations—a violently red façade leads to a counter in acid green—the ambience here is très chic and très discreet. A solid list of modern wines includes the owner’s own well-respected label, and you just might catch a glimpse of him dining with friends. Even if you aren’t a celebrity yourself, expect good-natured, efficient service.
Insider Tip: Bypass the spare, expensive starters in favor of the seafood platter for two, and save room for the mille-feuille dessert.
