Under the direction of up-and-coming chef Inaki Aizpitarte, this venue has become one of the hottest “bistronomiques” (gastronomique bistro fare at economique prices) in town. Here, foie gras is served in steaming bowls of miso soup; crisp mackerel meets green Tabasco peppers and lychees; and the usually savory pipérade is adapted with fruit and served as a dessert. The $21 lunch menu and $62 five-course dinner menu are hard to beat, and the authentic 30’s-era décor (tiled floor, hanging globe lights) creates a homey, yet reliably hip atmosphere, making this a favorite address among media, art, and fashion types.

Insider Tip: Although it’s easy to get a table at lunch, which is served tapas-style, the most creative dishes come out at night. To see the scene in full swing, reserve several days in advance, and not before 9 p.m.
