Arguably the most authentic Italian restaurant in Costa Rica, Lanterna is also considered the best table in the Jacó area—a valuable distinction, since new eateries pop up in this popular beach destination every year. Part of the popular Los Sueños Marina Village complex in Playa Herradura (which includes a hotel and beach club), Lanterna dishes out Italian classics like delicate handmade fettuccine and hearty lasagna (the house special), and a daily rotating selection of seafood pasta dishes. The restaurant serves only dinner; reservations are recommended.

At the end of the day, head for the second-floor Terrace lounge for fresh-fruit-infused cocktails and to watch the ships gleaming in the setting sun.
