La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali
Rome, Italy
Located on a quiet side street in the Monti district, La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali (the Tavern of the Imperial Forum) is an unassuming, family-run restaurant just five minutes from the eponymous forum. Inside, the small, no-frills space is designed with brick archways, red-and-white-checkered tablecloths, and photographs of former guests like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. While his wife, son, and daughter operate the front of the house, chef-owner Alessio Liberatore crafts home-cooked Italian dishes such as pappardelle alla carbonara and saltimbocca alla romana, along with ever-changing daily specials. Entrées are paired with selections from the all-Italian wine list.
Insider Tip:
The rotating specials, which may include options like pappardelle with white truffles, are always the best way to go here, so make sure to ask about them.
