Gerard’s
Depart from typical island fare at this white-tablecloth French restaurant in the historic former whaling village of Lahaina. France-born chef Gerard Reversade, a Maui resident for more than 25 years, is the artist behind the contemporary takes on escargots, duck confit, and rack of lamb, but he truly shines with fish: scallops over a salad of flavorful spinach, buttery ahi tartare with homemade taro chips, and the day’s fresh catch, prepared differently each night and nearly always a home run. Like any French restaurant worth its salt, Gerard’s doesn’t skimp on wine or desserts (homemade mango and guava sorbet, chocolate-mousse profiteroles, tarte Tatin). Seating is in the leafy garden, on the wraparound veranda, or inside the French/tropical-colonial-style home with its white cane chairs and antique floral-and-vine wallpaper.
Insider Tip:
Reserve ahead for the garden or veranda.
