Frances
San Francisco, CA, 94114, United States
Chef Melissa Perello spent her twenties collecting accolades at esteemed San Francisco restaurants like Fifth Floor and Charles Nob Hill. Within the narrow, black-and-white decorated Frances, a neighborhood bistro in the Castro, Perello changes her menu daily, but retains a clear focus on modern California cuisine featuring local ingredients. Frances earned a Michelin Star in 2011, thanks to dishes like applewood-smoked bacon beignets with maple crème fraiche and chive, and pan-roasted sablefish with summer squash, basil pesto, and tomato fumet. The house wines—red, white, and rosé—are blended by beverage director Paul Einbund, and are a steal at $1/ounce.
Insider Tip:
Named after chef Perello's grandmother, Frances was built with the help of family: her mother sewed the cushions and aprons, while her father completed the banquette and wood finishings.
