Lower East Side
Falai
Chef Iacopo Falai's brilliant trifecta of Italian eateries illuminates the culinary scene in SoHo. Although his main restaurant is temporarily closed, the cafe and bakery remain neighborhood favorites as they bring gourmet Italian fare to your power breakfast or lunch hour. The menu shines just as brightly as the gleaming white interiors and sparkling chandeliers at Caffe Falai: foccacia and baked egg cocottes, along with former pastry chef Iacopo's original Spring Dome pistachio cake are among standouts. Just a mile away at the award-winning Panetteria, signature black cabbage and onion fennel breads fill the air with sweet and savory aromas.
Insider Tip:
Brand new and right next door to Caffe Falai is Bottega Falai, a retail counterpart which opened in April 2011. Take specialty groceries, freshly prepared sandwiches and pastas home to enjoy.
