El Gaucho

2505 1st Ave.
Seattle, WA, United States
TEL: (206) 728-1337

Seattle's original El Gaucho was a circa-1950's tavern/restaurant that lasted into the mid-80's. Current owner Paul Mackay revived the brand in 1996, nurturing it into a legendary—and theatrical—steakhouse. El Gaucho channels a decidedly old-school vibe: waiters wear tuxedoes, women are escorted to the ladies' room, and a pianist performs live each night. Food prep here is a spectator sport, complete with flaming swords and desserts. Twenty-eight-day, dry-aged Prime Angus steaks, as well as ribs, pork, poultry, and seafood, are prepared over an open charcoal grill, the main focal point of the restaurant.

Insider Tip:

During football season, games are broadcast in the Cigar Room, which in spite of the name now prohibits tobacco products due to Washington State law.
