Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant

1114–1118 U St. N.W.
Washington, DC, United States
TEL: (202) 667-8735

Dukem, a casual eatery in the U Street Corridor, is widely acclaimed as one of the best traditional Ethiopian restaurants in the nation. The dining room is adorned with simple wooden tables, large windows, and an illuminated marble bar with miniature columns. During warmer months, seating is also available on the outdoor patio. Known for offering bolder, more authentic spices than its local counterparts, Dukem serves such specialties as tibbs, beef or lamb fried with vegetables and served with special sauce and injera (flatbread). The restaurant also hosts Ethiopian musicians several nights a week.

Insider Tip:

Visit between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday for Dukem's weekly cultural show, which features live music, traditional dancing, and coffee ceremonies.
