Chez Gautier

Traditional French cuisine is the specialty at Chez Gautier, which has been a Montreal staple since the 1970's. The bistro is styled after a Parisian brasserie, with leather benches, dark woodwork, and brass pillars. A glass dome, in glowing tones of orange and red, rises over the bar, and the outdoor terrace is full of flowers in summer. Dishes by chef Jean-Paul Magnier range from skirt steak with shallots and champagne sauce, to duck confit and a boudin noir (blood sausage) served with apples. For dessert, there are house-made Belgian chocolates, as well as pastries and breads from La Patisserie Belge next door.
