Carmel
Anton & Michel
Between Ocean and Seventh Aves.
Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, United States
This mainstay restaurant in downtown Carmel first opened in 1980 and may be best experienced in warmer weather, when people fill the umbrella-clad tables in the plant-lined Court of the Fountains. However, even in winter, Tony and Maria Salameh present their refined, Continental-inspired cuisine on white tablecloths in a pair of pink-walled dining rooms. At lunch, they spotlight salads and sandwiches, as well as light main dishes like Dungeness crab ravioli. Dinner brings more elaborate plates, including porcini-rubbed Australian barramundi with wild mushroom cous cous. Anton & Michel also offers a three-course dinner for two, served tableside, consisting of Caesar salad, rack of lamb, and a shared flambée dessert (cherries jubilee, bananas foster or crêpes suzette).
Insider Tip:
The paintings decorating Anton & Michel's walls were hand-selected from the Salameh's private art collection.
