“In traveling the world from Bolivia to Afghanistan to Rwanda to Bosnia, what I love most is experiencing personal connections with the people who live there. In particular, I love meeting women, hearing their stories and seeing the beautiful things they make as a part of their culture. A trip to Rwanda in 2003 changed my life forever. I was profoundly moved by widows of the Rwandan genocide, who with incredible nobility and dignity were weaving exquisite baskets as a form of recovery, reconciliation, and cultural celebration. That experience led me to import their beautiful baskets and start a business that has now led to a successful partnership with Macy’s. For the past four years Macy’s has helped bridge the miles between artisans abroad and those in the U.S. by selling these one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork. To this day, my personal experiences abroad continue to shape my life in many ways. This year Macy’s has launched Shop for a Better World, a collection we carefully put together including incredible textiles, baskets, and jewelry from Rwanda, silk totes and travel accessories from Cambodia, and tabletop and home décor from Indonesia, and holiday ornaments from Tanzania. The unique collection is offered online at www.macys.com/betterworld, and in select Macy’s stores throughout the country.”

“Every year my family travels to Hungary. My kids speak Hungarian and Budapest is a really kid friendly city. I book our flights as late in the day as possible and eat dinner at the airport, so we can sleep as soon as we’ve boarded. This makes the transition to the new time zone much easier. With the restriction on carry on liquids on airlines, my Instant Mineral SPF, as a powder sunscreen is the perfect carry on sunscreen.”
