2008 DESIGN AWARDS

On February 12th, 2008 Travel + Leisure hosted its fourth annual Design Awards event at the Frank Gehry-designed IAC Building in Manhattan. The evening celebrated the best new architecture and design shaping every aspect of the travel experience, from hotels and museums to restaurants, and travel accessories. More than 400 notable guests from around the world attended including award winners, members of the awards jury, luminaries and influencers in the design and architecture community and friends of the magazine. MarketWatch 2008

On April 24, Travel + Leisure held its biannual MarketWatch summit at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. Hosted by Nancy Novogrod, Editor-in-Chief, and Jean-Paul Kyrillos, V.P./Publisher, MarketWatch brought together industry luminaries to examine where America stands in today’s global marketplace, the unique opportunities this creates for travel brands, and the factors that engender loyalty among affluent, American consumers. Keynote speaker David Rockwell of Rockwell Group reflected on architecture, style, and design as it relates to travel. A panel discussion followed with moderator Nilou Motamed, Features Editor, and panelists Stephen Hanson of B.R. Guest Restaurants, Howard Karawan of Fountainebleau Resorts, Murray Moss of Moss, and Marty Muller of Disney Destinations.

BEVERAGE ARTS CHALLENGE

In summer 2007, Travel + Leisure and GRAND MARNIER© launched the Beverage Arts Challenge. Reaching out to over 500 T+L-endorsed hotels, Travel + Leisure asked hotel bartenders to submit an original cocktail recipe featuring GRAND MARNIER©. Renowned mixologists Dale Degroff and Anthony Giglio narrowed the entries at an exclusive tasting in New York City. In November 2007, the top three contenders showcased their mixology skills and original cocktail recipes in a grand finale mix-off held at the Halekulani resort in Hawaii. A notable panel of judges crowned Matt Martinez of Beverly Hills the “Grand Mixologist” and voted his “Sunset Sour” the winning cocktail. SUNSET SOUR Ingredients: 1 1/4 oz. GRAND MARNIER©, 1 1/4 oz. Aperol®, 1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice, 1/4 oz. simple syrup, 1/4 oz. egg white Garnish: Long orange twist
