Please get it into your head that what you tend to find under the banner “brunch” in Paris, will not correspond to anything you’d find in the UK or US. Brunch here tends to mean a set-menu of too many pretentious dishes, often featuring smoked salmon, and costing around 25-30€. The selection of addresses below, however, do a good job at providing something you might find in London or LA, which is to say a tasty, healthy, filling, and reasonably priced meal with eggs at its heart, plus a hot drink, and why not a Bloody Mary, too? If time permits, it’s impossible not to want to while away a Sunday in Paris nursing a spicy cocktail and working your way through a basket of pastries and a French omelet in good company. Come the weekend, everything in Paris slows down anyway, so you might as well continue the brunch tradition on the Continent. Pour quoi pas?

Holybelly

“Be nice” is the motto at this friendly and trending address down by the Canal St. Martin. The young French couple behind the business spent time working in Melbourne and bring an Antipodean flavor to the great coffee and fresh food. They offer an all-day eggs and sides menu, including bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, fried tomatoes and arugula, marinated sheep’s cheese, and sausage rolls.

Café Coutume

A pioneer on the craft coffee scene, Coutume roast brews the finest seasonal Arabica coffees on-site here. The designer interior is a chic whitewashed industrial setting to enjoy a great coffee and a tasty weekend brunch of fresh and healthy homemade fare, like housemade granola.

Le Bal Café

Kippers for brunch anyone? The chefs at Le Bal Café, located inside a great contemporary photography exhibition space, prepare a contemporary UK menu, and their popular weekend brunch features homemade Brit classics, including kippers, scones, porridge, eggs and bacon, and even Welsh rarebit! Book.

Sésame

This friendly and healthy spot with a touch of Brooklyn on the Canal St. Martin offers a weekend brunch including fresh juices and great coffee, plus vegetarian and vegan options. And there’s free Wi-Fi, so you can pull out your laptop if you need to catch up on some emails.
