Marrakesh is unquestionably romantic. No wonder it’s the location of choice for so many film crews: minarets, gardens, palaces and so much more can be found in the Red City. Even the Jewel of the Nile shot scenes in Marrakesh—which is so counter-intuitive that it demonstrates the city’s allure. If you are traveling as a couple or you’ve made a chance encounter in Morocco, Marrakesh is also the perfect spot for romance and a memorable date. And lucky for you, there are date spots to suit every personality. So if you’re a sports enthusiast, a foodie or a history buff (or you think your date might be), here are five options for you. Granted, many factors go into pulling off a good date that involve a lot more than mere location, but this is the best I can do for you. The rest is up to you. Good luck!
If you are nature lovers as well as lovers, you’ll appreciate the simplistic charm of this resort with nomadic tents and authentic food, located just outside Marrakesh. It’s a lovely spot for a tented lunch or a stroll under a soothing desert sky, even if you’re not staying overnight. And if you have time to stay, it’s great for anyone keen on ecotourism or looking for a range of outdoor activities.
Dinner and a Carriage Ride
Close to the main square, you can take excursions on a horse-drawn carriage—maybe you’ll take it for a sunset tour, or to amble through Menara Gardens. Afterward, dine at the Tobsil, a Moroccan restaurant in a centuries-old riad. Sure to impress.
Les Bains de Marrakesh
This lovely hammam, or public bath, makes for an unforgettable date—whether you want private spa treatments or just a luxurious soak. Located at the doors of the Kasbah, you’ll think you’ve been transported into your own version of The Arabian Nights. If you play your cards right, the intimate atmosphere will linger throughout the rest of your evening.
Argan Xtreme Sports
If you yawned through the first three suggestions, this one might get your heart racing. With high-quality bikes and an insightful guide along for the ride, you can take an adrenaline-filled bike whiz through the Atlas Mountains, with a stop for lunch along the way.
Medersa Ben Youssef
If your date loves history or design, head over to my favorite spot in the city, this college whose main buildings date back to the 14th century. Take a selfie for two in front of the huge tiled basin fountain. Afterward, you can round off the date with a lunch at the café in the Museum of Marrakesh.
