There’s no doubt about it; Costa Rica is for lovebirds. The country is brimming with candlelit dining, pillow top mattresses, showers for two, and Jacuzzi-topped balconies overlooking oceans, volcanoes, and tropical forests. Whether a couple prefers adrenalin-fueled adventuring, high-end pampering, exploring the natural world, or simply relaxing on the beach with a tropical cocktail, that twosome will return home rejuvenated, loving life, and raving to their friends.

There aren’t many destinations in Costa Rica where couples won’t have an amazing time, but there are specific locales that suit certain types of romance travelers. For example, gay couples will feel most welcome in Manuel Antonio, and budget-conscious pairs will definitely want to make for the Caribbean. Uvita and Santa Teresa are up-and-coming lovers’ destinations that offer spectacular beaches and views. And although the fireworks at Volcano Arenal have quieted, its classic hot springs and romantic hotels make it a longstanding favorite.

Manuel Antonio

In this central Pacific beach destination, the road curves dramatically past dozens of upscale hotels and sexy restaurants until it ultimately reaches the national park, where monkey and sloth sightings are a given. The scenic views are gorgeous, making this a top getaway choice for lovers with reasonably thick wallets.

Arenal

It doesn’t get more sumptuous than a soak in the hot springs at Tabacon Thermal Resort and Spa with a mojito in one hand and your partner’s hand in the other. This enchanting volcano destination also offers all the adventure sports you can imagine, along with dreamy accommodations, charming restaurants, and friendly locals.

Southern Caribbean

Consider the Southern Caribbean of Costa Rica the country’s relaxation capital. The gently lapping ocean is often bathtub-warm, the food is decadent and spicy, and the abundant sloths seem to embody the lifestyle of the place. Lovers looking to chill on the beach, rum cocktail in hand, will find no place more tranquilo to do so.

Uvita

This once unknown highland sanctuary is gaining traction with honeymooners, and for good reason. The boutique hotels that pepper the mountain provide guests with lots of private space, first-rate dining, and killer views of the coastline below, which is shaped like a whale’s tale and protected as a national marine park.

Santa Teresa

Perched on the remote tip of a secluded peninsula, Santa Teressa tends to get the heart pounding. Incredible sunsets, delicious international restaurants, luxurious boutique hotels, and myriad adventures (ATV rentals, nature tours, journeys on horseback, etc.) are all part of what makes this the romantic getaway to the stars.
