To shake your taste buds awake, head to Old Town for their haute eggs benedict paired with a bottomless mimosa. In Lincoln Park, carb cravings are vanquished with stacks of decadent pancakes at Orange. And for the madcap muncher, a trip to Twisted Spoke offers a meal that pulls double-duty as sightseeing experience. The gritty crowd, gut-busting menu, and impressively garnished Bloody Marys are the stuff of gastronaut dreams.

Twisted Spoke

Do you like your eggs with edge? The hipsters you’ll encounter at this West Side biker bar/restaurant sure do. Tackle the breakfast tacos or specialty “Scrap-Heap Gumbo” with poached eggs. Top the meal off with a legendary Twisted Spoke Bloody Mary. It’s spicy and garnished with huge pieces of salami and cheese. 

Tempo

Quite simply, this is a classic diner in all its glory. Picture thick slabs of raisin studded French toast, frisbee-sized pancakes, and massive bowls of steel-cut oatmeal. Omelettes (any way you want them) are the house specialty, and they come beautifully presented in well-seasoned skillets. Unlimited coffee refills are a given.

For an upscale breakfast, the Parisian style brasserie at the ground floor of the Peninsula Hotel is ideal. The menu is small but focused. Embrace simplicity with freshly baked croissants and a latte, or enjoy heartier fare like the croque monsieur, buttermilk waffles, or a European-inspired charcuterie platter. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.

Orange

When a place serves brunch, and only brunch, seven days a week, it better be good. Orange delivers deliciousness in spades. The standout is the pancake flight, four stacks of specialty silver dollars with a weekly theme. Previous selections have included vanilla crème brulee, tres leches, red velvet with cream cheese mousse, and German chocolate cake with coconut pecan paste. Wowsa.
