Like any other city in Europe, Barcelona has hundreds of hotels that you can enjoy with your partner. There are all kinds of offers, locations and prices, but the most in demand are obviously the ones that combine the best services with a privileged location. Because Barcelona is a family-friendly city and (as I've said many times before) a very safe one, romanticism comes easily when you wander through old neighborhoods by the light of the day. But there’s nothing more romantic that starting your evening with a cocktail at your hotel (if the weather is right, you can enjoy a rooftop bar) and a nice dinner afterwards. Here I have selected some very different options for a romantic stay— from a hotel that lets you enjoy a dip in a heated pool to the one that surrounds you in the mysteries of a medieval environment.
The main reason for including this hotel on this list is the building itself. Occupying a former 1911 palace and designed by the modernist architecture Lluis Domenech i Montaner, Casa Fuster is Woody Allen’s hotel of choice when he comes to Barcelona. I’m not a fan of the rooms—the décor is absolutely conventional—but the bar, the rooftop and the service are all top-notch.
My favorite hotel on this list, the Neri offers fantastic rooms, excellent room service, and one of the most beautiful environments in the city—it’s right in the middle of El Gotic, Barcelona’s medieval quarter. The hotel is within walking distance of almost every major attraction in Barcelona, including shopping centers, architectural gems, and dozens of restaurants. And the building itself is a thing of beauty.
Grand Central Hotel
The romantic ambience at this hotel features soft lighting, lots of black and grays, and very modern rooms with views onto one of the city's main arteries. The restaurant and the bar are splendid as well, and you’re a two minute walk from Las Ramblas and Plaça Catalunya. I especially recommend this hotel for couples on a budget.
The only inconvenient aspect of this hotel is that it is far from the city center (it’s in the financial district, close to the city’s convention center). However, it has an incredible pool, rooms that are large and cozy, fantastic sea views, and access to the beach. Because of the location is very quiet, the range of prices above the usual rate, the restaurant is very romantic and the pool is never crowded. You won't find large groups or students there. Just keep in mind that it’s too cold to swim here in autumn or winter.
This hotel is ideal for a decadent vacation. The property has every amenity you might want—but best of all is its heated indoor swimming pool, After taking a long dip with your partner, you can enjoy cocktails at the rooftop bar with views of Las Ramblas and El Raval.
