1. PGE Park
1844 S.W. Morrison St., 503/553-5555; www.pgepark.com
This historic stadium, built in 1926, is home to Triple-A Baseball's Portland Beavers and professional soccer's Portland Timbers. Although the stadium underwent a $38.5-million renovation in 2001, it continues to use a manual scoreboard that requires a staff of four to operate.
2. Nob Hill
Focus on N.W. 21st Ave. and N.W. 23rd Ave.
Named after San Francisco's Nob Hill, this Portland neighborhood, also known as Northwest, is dotted with trendy cafes, shops, and gourmet restaurants. Twenty-first Avenue, a.k.a. "Trendy-first," satisfies shopping appetites, while 23rd Avenue, or "Trendy-third," fulfills its other nickname of "Restaurant Row."

Keep an eye out for one of Portland's 10 colorful streetcars in the Pearl District and Nob Hill. The 4.8-mile loop it follows also connects to the Downtown Cultural District, Portland State University, and the South Waterfront area.
4. Pearl District
Bordered by W. Burnside St., N.W. Broadway, the Burlington Railroad track, and I.S. 405 Freeway; www.pearldistrict.org
This former industrial neighborhood is now laden with art galleries, artists' studios, and high-end lofts-many located in renovated, cavernous warehouses. It is also home to the state's oldest microbrewery, BridgePort Brewing Company (www.bridgeportbrew.com).
5. Pioneer Courthouse Square
Located at S.W. Morrison St, S.W. Sixth Avenue, S.W. Yamhill St., and S.W. Broadway; www.pioneercourthousesquare.org
Sometimes called Portland's "living room" for the high volume of foot traffic it receives every day, this downtown meeting point hosts more than 300 events a year. Among the events are cultural celebrations such as the Festa Italiana and quirkier gatherings like the Million Marijuana March.
