Wicker Park/Bucktown
Wicker Park Inn
Set in the midst of the city’s trendiest neighborhood, this 1890’s row house is all about the choice location. Eschewing B&B kitsch and forced camaraderie, the Wicker Park Inn’s rooms are private and stylishly spare; the five rooms in the main building (some with exposed brick walls) have private baths, and their design roughly corresponds to the room names (toile in the Provence room, red and yellow in the Tuscan room). The common area is limited to the cheerful kitchen, where light homemade breakfasts are served; a side yard allows for eggs alfresco when the weather’s warm. Although the back rooms have been soundproofed (and earplugs are provided), the L train rumbles directly behind the building, so light sleepers should book a room in the front or opt for one of the two roomy apartments the inn runs in the three-flat building directly across the street.
Tip: One of the owners used to run a bakery, so don’t pass up the raspberry scones.
Room to Book: The Wicker Park Room, with a four-poster bed, charming French doors, and a wood-burning fireplace.
