Honokaa
Waipio Wayside Bed and Breakfast Inn
Honokaa, Big Island, HI, 96727, United States
TEL: (800) 833-8849
Situated along the Hamakua Coast, this small bed-and-breakfast is housed in the former residence of a sugar plantation superintendent. Built in 1932, the secluded house is surrounded by a lanai with hammocks, a tropical garden filled with fruit trees, and a gazebo overlooking the ocean below. The five guest rooms are individually decorated and may contain hardwood floors, antique wooden furniture, floral quilts, and large windows framing ocean or garden views. The Library Room also has a collection of more than 400 books. Innkeeper Jacqueline Horne cooks a daily organic breakfast, which might include pesto scrambled eggs and macadamia muffins.
Room to Book:
Rooms facing the highway often require closed windows to block out traffic noise, so request a room on the opposite side if you prefer open windows.
Insider Tip:
If you visit the nearby Waipio Valley, home of the nation’s highest waterfall, make sure to take a shuttle, as cars often get stuck.
