Downtown Minneapolis
W Minneapolis - The Foshay
Note: Scheduled to open in late July 2008
A sexy new hotel in an arguably unsexy city, the W Minneapolis is a stunning renovation of the 1920’s Art Deco Foshay Tower. Until 1957, it was the tallest building west of Chicago and it has remained a city landmark. The hotel’s Roaring Twenties theme now marries the historic feel of the 447-foot obelisk-shaped tower with a modern look that extends throughout the 32 floors, including the guest rooms, restaurant, and 27th-floor bar. The multimillion-dollar project includes a painstaking restoration of the lobby’s original marble pillars and terrazzo floors and the ornate plaster ceiling in the arcade. Hot pink and purple accents complement the black and gray décor in each of the 230 rooms, complete with fully outfitted sassy pink mini-bars, perfect for mixing up illicit late-night martinis reminiscent of the prohibition era.
Tip: Check your vertigo at the door and seek out the phenomenal city views from the 29th-floor observation deck.
Room to Book: The 28th-floor Extreme Wow Suite lives up to its name with a fireplace, two bedrooms, and a fully stocked bar.
