Built in 1892 on the city’s first hot air balloon launch field, this Neoclassical château was transformed into a luxury hotel in 1990. The château is situated in a quiet residential area in the 16th Arrondissement, within two miles of the Trocadéro, Tour Eiffel, and Arc de Triomphe. Beyond the courtyard fountain, the hotel features a cavernous lobby adorned with tiered crystal chandeliers. Two grand staircases lead to 48 individually designed guestrooms, many of which include arched ceilings, hand-painted murals, and unusual antiques. Saint James also offers a classic French restaurant and a wood-paneled library bar lined with 12,000 books.

Garden level rooms don’t have much of a view, but the quiet atmosphere is a worthy tradeoff for light sleepers.

The hotel has a fitness center, but if you prefer to exercise outside, head to nearby Bois de Boulogne for a jog on one of the park’s many trails.
