The National Hotel is a stylish blend of two eras—and both are camera-ready. The 1939 landmark is festooned in Art Deco details, from the silver cupola atop its 11-story tower to the zebra-print fabric that lines the bottom of the luggage trolleys. But it also offers up-to-the-minute services and amenities. This mix of old-school elegance and modern convenience has made the hotel a favorite of still and screen. It’s used so often as a backdrop (from Vogue to MTV) that the property has its own on-staff production manager. The 36 deluxe Cabana rooms and suites around the pool area were recently renovated—and are larger than those in the 115-room tower—but ocean-facing tower rooms have views of South Beach. Art fills every corner of the hotel (Tamara Lempicka’s Pop paintings grace the lobby and the restaurant named for her), and even the basement-level hallways are lined with photos of old Miami.
Insider Tip:
The National has bikes available by the pool ($15 for four hours) or you can cycle around the beach on a DecoBike; the nearest docking station is less than a block away, on the corner of Collins and Lincoln ($4 per half hour, $5 per hour; decobike.com).
