Kalani Oceanside Retreat

Spanning 120 acres of jungle in the town of Pahoa, Kalani Oceanside Retreat is an alternative to the traditional island resort. Comprised of secluded cottages and bungalows, the nonprofit retreat promotes a lifestyle dedicated to nature and wellness; for instance, landscaping is kept to a minimum to enable native plants to flourish, and the open-air restaurant incorporates fresh local ingredients into every meal. All accommodations contain colorful original artwork, but no TV’s or air conditioning. The retreat’s daily classes and activities, which are the primary focus for many guests, include tai chi, belly dancing, and 12 different styles of yoga.
