Just three blocks from the French Quarter, the International House hotel has a white Beaux-Arts exterior dating from the early 1900’s. In the high-ceilinged lobby, white carved pilasters and decorative molding contrast with bright red, antiqued velvet chairs and murals depicting the history of Mardi Gras. Most of the 117 guestrooms contain black-and-white photos of the city, custom-made tables topped with gold marble, and vanity lights decorated with Swarovski crystals. Basque-style cuisine is served in Kenneth LaCour’s Rambla restaurant, while the candlelit Loa bar offers inventive cocktails made with chicory-plantain bitters, freshly squeezed juices, and even Spanish moss.
Room to Book:
Street noise is often an issue here, so light sleepers should request a top-floor room.
Insider Tip:
Avoid the pricey valet fee by parking in the less expensive garage just one block down the street.
