If you want stay in a great, non chain hotel while in New Orleans, seek out the International House.
This place is all about personal touch and attention without the attitude.
It is situated 2 blocks from the French Quarter so you do not have to endure the tourists and all the associated distractions. Still, it is only a 2 minute walk to the French Quarter..
