Santa Fe
Inn of the Turquoise Bear
Santa Fe, NM, United States
TEL: (800) 396-4104
Just blocks from the Plaza and close to the Opera, the Inn of the Turquoise Bear is surrounded by an acre of terraces, gardens full of lilacs and roses, and tall pines. The Spanish-Pueblo Revival house, built in the mid-1800s, is on the National Register of Historic Places and was home to Witter Bynner, who was known for "Bynner Bashes". Thus, the eleven rooms are named after famous guests such as Ansel Adams, Stravinsky, and O'Keefe. Rooms retain a Southwestern flavor with kiva fireplaces, Navajo prints, and vigas ceilings. Breakfast and sunset refreshments are served in the hacienda-style dining room.
Room to Book:
For extra privacy, the Spud Johnson room is in a separate carriage house; it also contains a brick tile shower for two.
Insider Tip:
Be forewarned that the inn is very pet-friendly and the owners' two dogs have free range of most of the property - including the dining room.
