Freeport & Mid-Coast

Inn at Bath

969 Washington St.
Bath, ME, United States
TEL: (800) 423-0964
TEL: (207) 443-4294

While many of Bath’s historic homes and former sea captains’ residences (identifiable by their cupola-esque widow’s walks) are now B&Bs, this one stands out like a tall-masted ship among dinghies for its comfort, hospitality, and easy elegance. Eight romantic rooms, each with private bath (and two with wood-burning fireplaces), are scattered throughout the impeccably maintained 1810 Greek Revival home, which innkeeper and Maine transplant Elizabeth Knowlton purchased in 2003. Knowlton will point you in the right direction should you want to explore the old shipbuilding town of Bath, named a “distinctive destination” by the National Historic Trust, and within a half-hour’s drive of two of Maine’s most beautiful state park beaches—Reid and Popham.

Room to Book: Book the “Fo'c'sle” (a nautical shortening for "forecastle," or sailors’ sleeping quarters), a cozy room with wide pine floors, beamed ceiling, wood-burning fireplace, Jacuzzi tub for two, and private entrance.

Insider Tip:

For a $15 fee, guests can bring their pets, but be sure to request one of the three rooms with easy outdoor access.
