The Gansevoort, steps from the prized white sand of Grace Bay beach, exudes a confident sense of cool: guests recline on extra-wide chaise longues or on one of the “floating islands” that punctuate the infinity-edged blue-tiled pool, all to the sound track of Caribbean-inspired lounge music. The 91 rooms are South Beach mod (low-slung platform beds; glass-walled showers built for two), but vacationing urbanites usually prefer to spend time at the hotel’s outdoor bar, which fills with locals on weekends. Forget beachy caftans—employees here are dressed in everything from seersucker pants or Bermudas with white shirts, to stovepipe pants with tailored sleeveless jackets. The island never looked so good.
