Gaige House
Sonoma, CA, United States
Set on three lushly landscaped acres—and equidistant from both Jack London State Historic Park and a wildflower preserve—Gaige House is a Zen-style oasis smack in the middle of wine country. The property (which has housed, over the past century, a schoolhouse, a bordello, and a private home) has two parts: an original 1890 building with 15 rooms, and eight new stand-alone spa suites. All are decorated with Asian-themed minimalist chic: dark-wood platform beds, rice-paper screens, black-granite baths. But the spa suites are larger and have private entrances to the courtyard gardens filled with magnolia, cypress, and bamboo. There’s a heated outdoor pool and spa services that can be enjoyed in your room, on a creekside deck, or in a cabana surrounded by greenery.
Room to Book:
Pull out all the stops and book the Creekside Suite, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and private patio overlooking Calabazas Creek.Insider Tip:
Don’t miss the three-course breakfast prepared by chef Charles Holmes using locally sourced produce; it’s well worth the $15 per person.
