One of three top-end hotels set in the historic, harbor-side Rocks district, the Four Seasons has a couple of distinct differences from its competitors, The Observatory Hotel and the Park Hyatt. First, it’s by far the biggest of the three, with 531 elegant rooms occupying a 34-story tower (many of these, especially on the high floors, have spectacular views over Circular Quay, the Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House). The Four Seasons also has all the cushy amenities of a resort, including a spa offering Elemis facials, Indian Sodashi massage, and Thai foot-cleansing rituals; a 3,767-square-foot fitness center with weight and cardio machines; and three dining options, including an upscale modern-Australian restaurant, Kable’s. Perhaps best of all (especially for those few who’d rather not brave the waves at Bondi or other nearby beaches) is the chichi palm- and cabana-surrounded outdoor pool, the city’s largest.

Rooms to Book: Full Harbour View Rooms (the higher the better), for the best vistas.

Insider tip: Wednesday through Saturday nights, live jazz performers play in the cozy hotel bar (try a signature martini while you listen).
