Okavango Delta
Eagle Island Camp
Okavango Delta Reserve, Botswana
TEL: (800) 957-6137
The unique location of this safari camp—it’s set on the island of Xaxaba, smack-dab among the waterways of the Okavango Delta—means you’ll do more of your game viewing via mokoro (traditional carved canoe) than you will via Jeep. After a morning of poling quietly through rivers where kudus drink and wattled cranes and fishing owls hunt, you can relax in one of the camp’s dozen raised thatch-roofed tents; all have air-conditioning, mini-bars, baths, and porches for private dining or lounging. Alternately, you can relax by the 20-meter pool; share sundowners with fellow guests at the alfresco Fish Eagle bar; or get a spectacular aerial overview of the delta and its wildlife on a free(!) helicopter tour.
Room to Book:
Nos. 7-12 have the best flood-plain views.
Insider Tip:
During the dry season, between November and March, more extensive 4 x 4 game-viewing excursions are offered off the island.
