The Dylan
On the site of Amsterdam's first theater in an 18th-century building, the Dylan is making a design statement, thanks to its inimitable interiors by Anouska Hempel. The 41 rooms alternate between Flemish austerity and Asian opulence. In the Loft suite, old-fashioned screens and low-slung sofas are done in restrained shades of white, cream, and oatmeal; conversely, the La Carmona suite is decorated with a Chinese chest and orange-and-brown-striped walls. Downstairs, the bar’s gold-leaf walls literally glow from a 2006 refurbishment by Dutch design firm FG stijl. There, Dries Van Noten–clad locals lounge on acid-green leather chairs, taking in the show.
Insider Tip:
Grab one of the hotel’s sleek black-lacquered bicycles—they’re complimentary for guests—and take it for a spin down to the Oud Zuid (Old South).
